Huawei supports the Campania region in facing the pandemic emergency with a complete project for digital school innovation: Smart School.

The pandemic has generated the imperative need to expand services to the population, such as smart school and smart healthplatforms, as well as to strengthen communication infrastructures. This was underlined by Valeria Fascione, Councillor with Responsibility for Research, Innovation and Startup of the Campania Region. In his speech at the Naples stage of Huawei’s Smart City Tour he underlined that: “we are in full emergency on the eve of the entry into force of the new tightening provided for by the last Prime Ministerial Decree. The importance of digital in this period is fundamental for schools and healthcare. But when it comes to Smart Region you have to have a holistic view.” In a scenario where technological support is indispensable, Huawei gives support from the Campania region with the Smart School initiative.

Why the choice fell on the Smart School is explained by Alessandra Clemente, Councilor for Heritage, Public Works and Youth of the Municipality of Naples:”Naples is the youngest city in Europe, 21% of the population is under 18 years […] he does not want to leave anyone behind in terms of distance learning”. Huawei’s contribution comes to the rescue of this young population with the creation of a territorial network of institutes designed to promote the relationship between teachers and students. This solution promises a quantum leap in the inclusive aspect of distance learning, as well as making it more accessible thanks to technology. For now, the project involves 11 high schools in Naples and its province and is carried out thanks to the collaboration of Huawei with the Culture & Innovation Foundation and the Sielte company, specialized in the design and maintenance of IT infrastructures and services and in the management of SPID codes.

This step is important because the security of the data within the program will be guaranteed by the release of the SPID by Sielte to all employees, collaborators and parents of the pupils of the schools involved.

The project offers campania schools the opportunity to identify the most appropriate solutions to solve the daily problems related to distance learning, mixed teaching and digitization of educational and administrative services.

The 11 institutes that are part of the pilot project count one school that will act as regional leader and the others that will be territorial leaders, that is, that will report the problems encountered in their respective

provinces. In phase 2 of the project it is planned that these starting schools will expand the network involving another 100 schools divided by province. With the support of the technological partners, the experimentation of new technological and training settings for the teaching staff will continue.

The technological equipment

In practice, the partners promoting the initiative have put in place many tools. Tablets will be used that will interact synchronously and asynchronously with the Huawei IdeaHub S 65 Linkboard, that is a central reference device equipped with Artificial Intelligence.

All the internal and external spaces adjacent to the school complexes will be equipped with access points to guarantee a broadband connection to students, teachers and administrative users, both with mobile and fixed network. Every 256 access points there will be an access controller.

The project also includes home automation and anti-COVID control solutions. For the first area, the use of OOS and Zabbix platforms is envisaged to monitor and control the electrical, thermo-hydraulic, lighting and other systems.

On the health front, thermographic scanners with Artificial Intelligence will control the temperature of students and staff entering the areas of competence of the school complexes for safe and controlled access to institutions.
